Great Taste 2017 award winning! Cacao’s high nutritional content has been hidden behind the fat and sugar content of chocolate for centuries, but awareness of its nutritional profile is increasing. Cacao butter is is a pure, stable vegetable fat that is extracted from cacao beans.
Cacao grows on tropical trees and is native to Central and South America. It is the main ingredient in chocolate, but it is increasingly consumed for its nutritional value as well as its taste.
Cacao is high in magnesium, which supports the nervous system and reduces tiredness, stress and fatigue. It also has a high antioxidant content, which is known to help fight off the effects of ageing, by reducing oxidative-stress cell damage.

Cacao beans grow in green pods, which are hand-picked from the tree and the flesh surrounding the beans is then allowed to ferment away. This enhances the bean’s unique flavour and reduces their bitterness. The beans are then broken into small pieces, or nibs. These are then ground into a paste that is pressed to extract the butter.
The cacao used in Green Origins Organic Cacao Butter is grown in South America, its native region. Cacao trees are found on the lower story of the evergreen rainforest as they thrive in humid temperatures with fairly constant rainfall, these conditions encourage optimum organic growth.
Very simple white chocolate recipe
- 1 and 1/2 cups Green Origins Cacao Butter
- 3/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Put a glass bowl over a pan of boiling water and melt the cacao butter over a medium-low heat. Stir frequently.
Add the coconut oil until it forms a nice texture. Add in the sugar and vanilla and use a whisk to help the sugar dissolve.
Pour into moulds while still warm.
Let the mixture cool until hard. You can put the mould in the freezer for about half an hour to make sure they’re solid all the way through before popping out of the moulds.
